Yugo SKS 59/66

Bought this at a gun show over the weekend....

Problem: After cleaning the cosmoline off of the firearm, and reassembling it, the trigger will only fall the hammer about 1/50th of the time. I can't really figure out the problem, but it basically just doesn't work.

Any advice?????:36_1_25:

I made sure the firing pin was "floating". The problem is that the hammer never falls, so the firing pin never even gets touched.

Not sure, but it sounds like a spring is either missing or installed improperly. The mechanism is fairly simple but there seems to be a disconnect between the trigger and the bolt.

Re: Yugo SKS 59/66

I figured out that that the bolt pushes the disconnector too far down; consequently, the trigger pin pushes out below the sear. This is why there is no resistance, and the hammer doesn't fall.

I now know the cuase of the problem, but I am unsure of how to fix it. I am not sure if there is a way to adjust the hieght of the disconnector, or wether it is just bent?

Send the trigger group to: http://www.kivaari.com/. Best thing you could do to any SKS.

I opted for the cheap way out....

Dremel tool + file down disconnector = fixed

Shot 80 rounds no problems.

Oh Yeah, and that thing was sweatin cosmoline from the heat produced by the barrel.

Thought I would try some Hopps #9 to clean any lingering cosmo... That stuff has to be one of the best all around gun cleaner I have used. It smells terrible, but it works great. It pretty much dissolves cosmo on contact, but I would not reccomend using it for a first cleaning of a grease coated gun.... that could get expensive quick.

Use mineral spirits and a tooth brush to remove cosmoline. For the trigger group boil it on the stove for about 15 minutes then blow it out with compressed air. (Open the windows -- the stuff really stinks.) Of course you should follow this wil LIBERAL amounts of Break Free CLP (non-aerosol). I'm sure you know this, but the bolt MUST be disassembled and the firing pin journal thorougly cleaned out in order to prevent slam fires. You can get a spring-loaded firing pin here: http://www.murraysguns.com/sksown.htm

For the stock bake it in the oven on LOW heat (170-200) for about 10-15 minutes then wipe it down with a clean cloth. It will produce a real nice finish.

As an added bonus you should check out the sights here, especially the narrow front sight post: http://www.tech-sights.com/.

For all things SKS this is a great site: http://www.yooperj.com/

Love those SKSs! BTW... you should still send the trigger to Kivaari. He will reduce the pull to 4-5 pounds and nearly eliminate trigger creep. However if you insist on DIY, check out this thorough blog: http://votefordavid.blogspot.com/200...sks-rifle.html
